My Story
My relationship with fitness is a long one. I can remember growing up seeing my parents exercise; my Mom would do TaeBo videos or Pilates DVDs in the living room, and my Dad would jam out to 80s pop music while on his Nordic Track. Throughout school I was pretty active and enjoyed dance. But in my mind exercise meant one thing = running. Maybe it was because we seemed to do endless hours of it while dance conditioning, but I learned pretty quickly to hate it. But it's really all I knew how to "do". Throughout college I found various fitness classes I enjoyed, mostly cardio based. I didn't take an interest in teaching fitness until I started taking a class called PiYo- basically like a choreographed power yoga. I loved it- I craved it. It challenged me in new ways and I loved moving to the music. I didn't know it then, but this would lead me to continuing to certify in new formats I found and loved, like barre and Pilates. I also learned that exercise can mean SO MUCH MORE than just running- and that was great news for me.
Fast forward to just a few years ago, when I realized I spent all this time exercising, but I didn't really have much muscle to show for it. This started my own personal strength training journey where I learned just what it takes to build muscle and get stronger. I finally felt like I was seeing real progress and found that so satisfying, both physically but also mentally. In learning proper strength training, my confidence in myself skyrocketed. This is what eventually led to my desire to certify as a personal trainer. Knowledge is POWER. I want to help other people find that same satisfaction in creating and reaching their fitness goal- because it is quite literally life changing!
